I.B.E.W. Retired Member's Club 586

March 2012

Greetings:

Our Friday, March 23rd  bus trip to the St. Eustache, QC Flea Market and the Baked Bean dinner and a sleigh ride through the sugar bush is filling up quickly.  At our next meeting / game day on Monday, March 19th is your last opportunity to register and participate on this first tour of 2012.  Total cost is $ 10.00 per member and / or spouse /partner for everything.  After the Monday meeting we will open up any vacant spaces to family and friends.  Departure time from the hall will be at 10:00 a.m. sharp.

At the March meeting /game day Marcel advises the lunch will consist of both pizza’s and Subway sandwiches.

This session will kick off at 10:00 a.m. at the union hall.  Plan to attend.
Sadly, another retired member passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Brother Doug Valin passed away on February 28th at the young age of 69 years. “He will not soon be forgotten by his Brothers”.  Also corrections to two active members who passed away.  Mark Neely passed away on December 12th, 2011 and Al Robertson passed away on January 6th, 2012.

The last game day was attended by 35 members, (it would have been more if we didn’t have so many snowbirds who went south for the winter).  The big prize winners were Ida Young, Marcel Brousseau and Bernadette, Eric Johnston and the special Valentine prize was won by Yvette Dumoulin.  All ladies were also presented with a Valentine gift.  It is also reported that Bob Flood has added another dozen names and updated  retirees memorial board.  Many thanks Bob for your devotion in keeping this board up to date.  Members are reminded next time you  visit to check and see if you are listed on the board.

It was great hearing from Lucien Bedard who turned 89 years young on February 3rd.  Many thanks Lou for your generous donation to the retirees club.  We also welcome three new prospective members to the club: Lou Vachon, Gilles Frenette and Yvon Cayer.  May this club fill a void in your life now that you are retired.

A reunion of our retiree snowbirds was held at the estate of Kevin and Pauline Birmingham on February 28th  in Lake Worth, FL.  Great camaraderie and wonderful to see our retirees enjoying their Golden Years.  Many thanks to Kevin and Pauline for hosting this memorable event.   We hear Campbell and Joy Orange out did us and went on a trip to Honduras where they took an ocean catamaran cruise.  These old people sure get around.

We are again exploring a one day bus trip to Montreal in May or early June.  Our last trip there two years ago was to visit the Botanical Gardens but a strike by the park employees a few days before scuttled this idea.  We ended up taking a boat trip on the St. Lawrence River around St. Helen`s Island and the 1967 Expo site.

"Many Happy Returns" to the following who will celebrate another milestone  birthday in April.
