Relay Newsletter - May 2026

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

In the next month we will be going through our elections here at Local 586. I would like to remind all our members of the importance of voting. It is important to make sure your voice is heard as you, the members get to decide the future and direction of our Local. If you do not receive a ballot in the mail by June, please contact our election judge Mike Holt by email at mikekholt66@gmail.com.

Our first session of Trade School started this month, and we are now underway training our apprentices to continue being the best in the industry. The construction of our new college level trade school was a monumental accomplishment for our whole team. The renovation of our old Hall into the school and the implementation of new curriculums will change the industry for IBEW 586 for decades to come. I am very proud of all the hard work our education staff: George Kardaras, Phil Tanguay and Colin Guillas have done to make this happen in such a professional manner.

Now that the final numbers have come in, the construction for the new Training Centre is almost One Million dollars below budget. We have also received word from the Ministry that our grant proposal has been accepted, which will cover 49% of the actual cost. Once we receive more accurate numbers from the Ministry we will share at our General meeting.

I’ve spoken to Aecon recently and have been informed that we will have two major battery storage facilities coming to Ottawa; one at the east end and one at the west end. Aecon will require a large workforce by early summer 2026.

I am asking all members to confirm your status of clearance or apply for Secret Security Clearance, to ensure we can dispatch you to work as soon as possible. Please contact our office to start this process.

Fraternally,

Brother Braydon Potter/Business Manager/Financial Secretary

Fraternellement,
Confrère Braydon Potter/Gestionnaire d’affaires/Secrétaire financier
